Phew. After finally catching up on some much-needed sleep, I’m delighted to report back on the Mediatonic stream shenanigans of Gameblast 2021! With 20 other members of Team Tonic in tow, we embarked on a foolhardy mission to play a solid 24 hours of non-stop Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout action, live on Twitch.
The sensible part was that this was all in support of the beyond wonderful Special Effect—a charity whose vital work puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities, by helping them to play video games.
By the stream’s end, the community had helped us raise over £7,500 for Special Effect! The money will go towards their life-changing work. For example, this could mean 37 single-handed controllers to enable disabled gamers to play with just one hand.
A full day of Fall Guys streaming garnered moments both surreal, heartwarming and downright weird, as viewers donated for a wild range of incentives—including exclusive early access to Season 4 costumes, Stumble Chums cosplay trinkets and predictably, forcing me to wear a bucket on my head for long periods of time.
Among the highlights, actual Lead Game Designer Joe Walsh stacked it on Door Dash, Santa took an unexpected trip to the moon and also trombones. Many incidents of trombone.
If you tuned in, donated, spread the word among your pals on social media or all of the above, I’d just like to say huge thank you from myself and the rest of the Mediatonic team. We are beyond grateful for your support for such a brilliant cause. To Gameblast ‘22 (...and sleep)!
